Everyone can help prevent and prepare for potential active shooter situations. This course provides guidance to individuals, managers and employees, so that they can prepare to respond to an active shooter situation. Built with the assistance of national subject matter experts from the law enforcement community, this course is intended for any audience, at work, at home, in school. Participants will learn how to mitigate the impacts of an active shooter incident and how to develop an initial organizational emergency action plan focused on such incidents. For additional information and to schedule a training at your facility contact us.

Active shooter incidents have taught us some sobering truths according to EMS1.com:

  • Despite the advice to run, shoot, fight; there are little to no options for victims to run or hide.

  • The shooter does not stop killing until he is engaged with force.

  • The longer it takes to engage the shooter, the more people are shot and killed.

  • Many people are shot and killed before police arrive, even when the response is only one or two minutes.

  • Most victims die before paramedics arrive.

  • Dont be a Victim

We need a proactive, citizen-based approach to mass shootings that is comparable to the training and equipment we utilize to address a variety of other emergency situations. Emergency responders cannot respond fast enough to prevent mass fatalities. We recommend an active citizen response as the best option to stop an active shooting event from escalating into mass murder. Why must it be the citizen? The answer is simple: time. Emergency responders cannot respond fast enough to prevent mass fatalities.

Specifically, citizens under attack need to do two things to save lives.

  1. Neutralize the attacker (Stop the Dying)

  2. Provide initial severe Bleeding Control to victims (Stop the Bleeding) and Airway management (Start the Breathing)

Understand the Effectiveness of an Unarmed Civilian Response

"In 21 incidents (13.1%), the situation ended after unarmed citizens safely and successfully restrained the shooter. In 2 of those incidents, 3 off-duty law enforcement officers were present and assisted."- ALICE Training

"Of note, 11 of the incidents involved unarmed principals, teachers, other school staff and students who confronted shooters to end the threat (9 of those shooters were students)."

"Police miss 70-80%of their shots in dynamic events. The “bad guy” is not usually a highly skilled shooter." - ALICE Training

46% of events end when Citizens or Police Apply Force. Source:- ALICE Training

According to Bill Barcher of HardTactics.com "Victims resolved two and a half times more incidents than police did." ... "Victim-resolved incidents resulted in a almost three times fewer fatalities than shooter-resolved incidents."

Regarding a Civilian Response as you can seen statistically it's pretty common for an unarmed person to stop an armed person than another person with a gun due the simple factor of proximity. Also keep in mind there is a danger of crossfire inflicting casualties with armed responses. So make sure your armed personal art well trained and prepared for the Active Shooter / Mass Casualty / Home Grown Terrorist realities including Crowd Dynamics and Active Shooter situations.

A large portion of people who are shot, live and make it to a Level One Trauma Center where they can be treated with lifesaving equipment and Drs. This doesn't mean you should dawn a cape and become a masked vigilante. However decisive aggressive direct action can mitigate the loss of life. There are inherent risks to yourself and loved ones. You may want to first makes sure your safe, then your family is safe before inacting a response, unless direct action is the only action that will prevent them harm. This training will help you to properly assess the risks and develop a safety game plan to save yourself, family, loved ones and community if exigent circumstances exist.

An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and other populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly.

The threat of indiscriminate gun violence hasn’t diminished. That’s why active shooter preparedness training efforts continue to escalate across the country. The goal is to help lower the body count by equipping people with the latest life-saving preparedness training.
